MasterChef – Casting Call

I’m going to do it! I’ve decided to audition for MasterChef (US) Season 10 next month in NYC on the 22nd of September. The show is looking for eccentric and determined people who have skills in – and passion for – cooking food.
MasterChef is a show that I never really paid attention to because I keep myself busy with life. While I love food and love cooking, I’ve never been a super-fan of cooking shows outside of Hell’s Kitchen. I do love me some Hell’s Kitchen though.
I’ve been watching MasterChef Season 9 since Episode 3 and I’m convinced that I’d be a quality contender on the show. After hours of online research about MasterChef and the experiences had by previous contenders, I feel like I have a good handle on what to expect.
It is reality television, after all. While it is a cooking-centric show, the show is a business and it needs ratings to be successful. To get ratings, the producers will edit the show as they please. To be on the show means I’m signing my life away for a few months until I win or I’m eliminated, trusting that the show producers will shine a positive, honest light on me and my character. They will have the right to paint any picture of me at their choosing.
My approach to this experience is simple: Enjoy myself. Be prepared. Be on point. Learn from the experience. Meet new friends. Come out alive and still happy. If I’m meant to be on the show, it will happen.
The casting call for MasterChef involves bringing a prepared dish to the event. The chef in me hopes that the judges truly do care about the techniques used and depth of flavor of the food that they are tasting.
As for my selected dish to submit to the judges…it will be a recipe that I developed on my own without borrowing from existing, published recipes. I know this because such a recipe doesn’t exist. I’ve looked. It is authentic and flavorful and represents everything about me.
I think it will get noticed.
